The interview is the final step in the employment
process. Your interview may
be a one-on-one interview, a series of one-on-one interviews, or it may
be a group interview.
Regardless of the type of interview, you will be evaluated on your
skills, personality, adaptability, and your responses to the interview
questions. More senior workers
should demonstrate that they are forward thinkers and technology savvy!
Successful interview preparation includes preparing
yourself emotionally. You
should review your values, interests, abilities, and personal strengths
before each interview so that you are prepared to let the interviewer
know why they should select you over the other candidates.
You should be sure to present a positive attitude and prepare to
present a positive and energetic performance to your interviewer. Here
are some suggestions:
- Be on
time, don’t be too early, and never be late.
- Allow
as much uninterrupted time for the interview as it may require.
(When choosing a parking spot, make sure you give yourself
ample time and don’t park in a limited time space)
- Don’t
ask anyone to go with you to the interview.
- Prepare
and take several copies of your résumé to supply at the interview.
- Take
backup information with you, such as your driver’s license and
social security card, list of references, and samples of your work,
if required.
- Take a
notepad and pen to write notes.
Be sure to make notes during the interview.
- Do not
chew gum during the interview.
